As a Caribbean girl, I look forward to the Toronto Caribana and having a chance to play in the masquerade yearly. Ever since I was a little, my family would take me to the lakeshore and I'll see people in their beautiful costume and huge feathers dancing to soca music and I will dream of being a part of that someday. I didn't get the opportunity to do that until the summmer I graduated out of high school and my cousins paid half for me to play with them as a graduation gift. I was so excited as this was something I always wanted to do but I was still dealing with body issue and even tho I was confident in the back of my mind, I knew people were going to judge me on the costume I was wearing and I felt so uncomfortable doing it. But when the day came and I put on the feathers and crown on my head and went on de road to jump up in mas. It felt right and it's been one of my favourite days in a long time
